Once, there were no stories in the world. The sky god Nyame had them all. Anansi the Spider wanted to buy the stories, but they were very expensive. Nyame wanted Onini the Snake, Osebo the Leopard, the Mmoboro Bees, and Mmoatia the Monkey. Anansi set out to catch these animals. First, he caught Onini by tying him in a knot around a tree branch. Then he caught Osebo by digging a big hole. Osebo fell in the hole and couldn’t climb out. Next, Anansi caught the Bees by trapping them inside their nest while it was raining. Finally, he caught Mmoatia by covering a doll with sticky tar. Mmoatia got stuck to the doll and could not get away. Anansi gave the animals to Nyame, and got the stories in return.

John Steinbeck, Woody Guthrie, and Dorothea Lang are some people who are becoming famous for writing about and taking photographs of the Dust Bowl.
